When you have the rights to a really good character and you don't use them, you lose the rights. And Fox Entertainment might be losing the rights to Tony Master a.k.a. Taskmaster. While it would have been great to see Taskmaster in an upcoming Deadpool film (the two of them together has always been gold), Taskmaster probably wouldn't have been used to his full potential under the Fox umbrella. While Marvel would be a great place or Tasky to land.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.:
Taskmaster started out Tony Masters Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before he became mercenary and super villain trainer to the stars. While originally his origin has been changed over and over, Marvel put out a mini series that explained where Taskmaster got his powers and why he is an on again off again villain. ABC could tell the story of Tony Masters Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. in a one season spin-off that could immediately lead into Taskmaster joining Coulson and his team after being blackmailed or needing protection from A.I.M. or Hydra or being their villain throughout the season. This would be an ideal place for Taskmaster to start and get him a wider range of viewers and recognition.
For a much grittier origin story, this would be the place to go. Considering that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't all guns that subdue and trinkets that keep people alive, having Taskmaster's origin story told on Netflix would be a novel idea. The show could easily start with Tony Masters going through the real aggressive and rigorousS.H.I.E.L.D. training with Nick Fury and Coulson and having to really take care of villains in a more lethal way. After getting his powers, the story could transition to Taskmaster becoming a super villain trainer and then eventually leading into his life as a mercenary and then leading into the mini series where he meets his wife and former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent again for the first time. The antics that went on in the comic took the two all around the world to help Taskmaster get his memories back. This may be above the pay scale of a Netflix show, but it would be easy to have the show take place in the New York boroughs. There are more than enough places for Mercedes and Taskmaster to hide out, fight, and figure out their lives.
You may or may not know that Taskmaster's first appearance was against the Avengers. An issue where Taskamster held his own against Iron Man while fighting Captain America. It wouldn't be a stretch to see Taskmaster become one of the antagonists in an Avengers franchise movie. It may not be believable to see Taskmaster beat the Hulk or Thor, but taking on Cap, Falcon, Hawkeye, and Antman and winning can easily be done. Especially since he has the tech and knows how all of their moves first hand.
Since Spider-Man is new to Marvel movies, why not start it with some new blood and a more challenging enemy? Taskmaster would be a great villain for Spider-Man to start out fighting. Someone who can actually test his skill, match his agility, and is a better fighter. Also, Taskmaster is a bit of a smart-@$$. So the two could get into a small battle of quips that add more banter than a lot of Spider-Man's B-List villains can.
Taskmaster is a good character and could a great addition to all of the Marvel franchise options. Hopefully Fox loses the rights instead of holding on to him and never using him.
