From the looks of it, the Inhumans will not be getting a movie any time soon. Marvel tried their best to make the Inhumans replace the mutants as the outcasts of the Marvel universe. The Terrigan Mist Bomb caused a disease called M-Pox to kill mutants (Multiple Man being the first major casualty) and sterilizing them. That failed. There will be two new X-Men books coming out in 2017 (X-Men Blue and Gold) Then their was an attempt to popularize them by putting them in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and showing them as a civilization thriving on their own. They were also shown as the power beings that they are. That, also failed. Sadly, it seems like the Inhumans project was destined to fail before the movie was an idea and the actions in comic books in recent years haven't helped either.
As a fan of comic books, it's hard to take the Inhumans serious. For decades they have been the punching bags of the Fantastic Four. An entire race of people with powers that rival some of the greats and they have spent the better part of their existence getting a beat down by Marvel's First Family The Fantastic Four. That's not to say it's a shame, but when you're constantly getting beat by the same four people and then one of your royal family jumps ship (Crystal)and joins them and even dates one of their members (Johnny Storm), it's a bit embarrassing.
Sure, the Inhumans have had more than their fair share of wins. They took out Tony Stark's Mighty Avengers, The Skrulls, and the Kree. But theses are all victories that people who aren't comic fans would have no idea that have happened. They have no classic story lines that break past comic book fans and the beat down of their most powerful Inhuman Black Bolt that was given by The Hulk and later by Thanos didn't help. So without a major and memorable win under their belts Marvel has never given fans of comic books a reason to care.
If comic book fans can't take them serious, those same people are not going to recommend this movie to the people who know nothing about them. When Dr. Strange was announced, comic book fans could always say. "Dr. Strange has a bunch of really cool powers and has gone up against Dr. Doom and even Satan and won. This should be cool." But what can we say to make the Inhumans sound intriguing other than there powers will look good on screen?
One brilliant step was trying to take one of the Inhumans and make them a solo star. Marvel picked Karnak. Karnak has the ability to see the flaws and vulnerabilities in everything. Not just people. He also sees them in logic, plan, philosophies, and more. Karnak is one of the few Inhumans that looks human enough to walk among humans on Earth (the big head and the green tattoos aside) and that may have been the reason that he was selected by Marvel to have his solo run. Judging by the new look and his loner attitude, Karnak may have been picked to replace Wolverine and or Old Man Logan. The problem with that is Karnak isn't interesting enough to replace him or carry his own series.
Just because Karnak is a great fighter and has decided to walk the Earth like Cane in Kung-Fu make him Logan. It took years, a lot of failures in his life to pick himself back up, fights against the greats like Cap, Hulk, Black Panther, and more, and a very cool "I don't give a poop" attitude but really cares more than he lets on. Karnak is...well, very dry, bland and very boring. Despite Karnak's powers he constantly gets his @$$ handed to him and Marvel didn't do a great job of making him relevant before dropping his solo series or in the recent Civil War 2. Maybe this is just the beginning and we will see more of Karnak in the future. As of right now, Karnak is just a guy with a big head and tattoos that can break a building with a few well placed hits.
All in all, the Inhumans could be a great group once they've been given the proper introduction that they deserve. They have been around since the 60's and deserve to be treated as good as their powers regal lineage deserves. It shouldn't take long since the momentum currently going. But what Marvel does NOW is going to determine whether or not Inhumans turns into Guardians Of The Galaxy or Green Lantern.
